Things to do in Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain has earned its reputation as one of Berlin's most culturally vibrant neighbourhoods — and most of what makes it special is within a 15-minute walk of Seumestraße 8. Here's what we genuinely recommend, straight from your hosts.

RAW Gelände — the neighbourhood's cultural hub

A 10-minute walk down Revaler Straße brings you to RAW Gelände — a vast former railway repair yard that's been transformed into one of Berlin's most distinctive creative spaces. It's not a single venue but a whole compound: live music, clubs, an outdoor climbing wall, a skate park, and a Sunday market all coexist across the old industrial buildings and open courtyards.

Cassiopeia

RAW Gelände

One of the neighbourhood's best-loved small venues — alternates between live music and club nights. Intimate, unpretentious, and genuinely local. Check their schedule for upcoming gigs.

Badehaus Berlin

RAW Gelände

A music venue and event space at the heart of the RAW compound, hosting everything from indie gigs to DJ nights. Great acoustics for a space this size.

House of Music

RAW Gelände

Another RAW venue for live music events and performances. Worth checking what's on before your stay.

Outdoor climbing wall + skate area

RAW Gelände

The RAW grounds also have an outdoor bouldering wall and a skate park — free to use, popular with locals on sunny afternoons.

Sunday clothing flea market

RAW Gelände

Every Sunday, RAW hosts a used clothing market with quirky, eclectic finds from across Berlin — different from the antiques market at Boxhagener Platz. Great for vintage hunting.

Music & nightlife

Beyond RAW, the neighbourhood has a handful of smaller venues and bars worth knowing about — from intimate live music spots to the kind of karaoke that becomes a highlight of your trip.

Artliners

A very small, very intimate live music venue on the edge of Simon-Dach-Kiez. Bands play close enough to touch. Great for discovering new acts.

Bar Bobu

A neighbourhood bar that regularly hosts live bands — more bar-with-music than dedicated venue, which makes for a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Monster Ronson's Karaoke

Private karaoke rooms you can rent by the hour — genuinely fun, especially with a group. One of the most enjoyable things you can do on a rainy Berlin evening. Book ahead on weekends.

Paule's Metal Eck

A heavy metal-themed bar on Krossener Straße — dark, full of character, and occasionally hosts live acts. Regulars are a friendly bunch.

Street art & graffiti tours

Friedrichshain is one of the best neighbourhoods in Berlin for street art — the walls around RAW Gelände, Simon-Dach-Kiez, and the canals are a constantly evolving open-air gallery. A guided tour is the best way to understand the context and history behind what you're seeing.

We personally recommend the "Berlin: Alternative Berlin Walking Tour" — we've done it ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are also excellent bike versions if the weather cooperates. Both are bookable on Get Your Guide.

Also worth the walk

Classic Friedrichshain sights you shouldn't miss.

East Side Gallery

~15 min walk or short tram

The longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, now an open-air gallery with murals by artists from around the world. One of the most important and moving sites in the city. Free, always open.

Volkspark Friedrichshain

~15 min walk

The oldest public park in Berlin — great for a morning run, afternoon picnic, or just a break from the city. The park has a fairy-tale fountain and an open-air theatre.

Uber Arena

~10 min from Warschauer Str. S-Bahn

Berlin's major indoor arena for concerts, sports events, and shows. Check the schedule — if something good is on during your stay, tickets are usually available.
